Dog Bite Victim in Port Huron Obtains Justice

dog bite settlement

The Lee Steinberg Law Firm, P.C. is pleased to announce the settlement of a dog bite attack case for a boy in St. Clair County.

While walking outside his home in Fort Gratiot, a large pit bull escaped through the front door of his neighbor’s home. Our client continued to walk on the sidewalk, unaware of the animal that was running towards him. The dog approached our client, and before he could do anything to get out of its path, the dog reached for and bit the young boy. The attack left permanent scarring to his left thigh and injury to this left hand.

After he returned home, his mother took him to McLaren Port Huron Hospital for treatment. The wounds were cleansed and antibiotics were provided. He also sought treatment from his pediatrician. The wounds fortunately did not become infected, but the resulting scarring is permanent.

After a period of negotiations, our firm was able to obtain a very fair settlement with the dog owner’s homeowners insurance carrier. The proceeds from the settlement were placed into a structured settlement. The settlement money will grow with interest over time and the minor child will gain access to periodic payments starting at age 18.

The settlement was approved by the St. Clair Circuit Court in Port Huron.

We are very happy we were able to obtain justice for the boy and his family. All medical bills were paid for as well as out-of-pocket costs. In addition, the child received a big settlement for the pain he has experienced. It was a great resolution for all parties involved.
