A Bicyclist Side Swipes a White 2017 Chevrolet Impala Resulting in Severe Injuries

A tragic accident occurred in Monroe County on July 27th Thursday morning when a bicyclist was involved in a crash that left them with severe injuries. The incident took place on Ida West Road in Ida Township, at approximately 6:38 p.m.

An investigation revealed that Brian L. Ochs, a local resident, was riding his bicycle in the middle of the eastbound lane when a white 2017 Chevrolet Impala driven by Cole R. Domanski, 24, attempted to pass him. Unfortunately, the situation quickly turned dangerous when the bicyclist veered towards the center, side-swiping the vehicle and then falling to the ground. The accident left Ochs injured and in a state of shock, coming to a stop on the eastside shoulder of Ida West Road.

He was then rushed to a hospital in Toledo, Ohio in critical condition. The sheriff's office revealed that Ochs was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. Fortunately Domanski, driver of the impala, was wearing a seatbelt and didn't sustain any injuries.

Authorities have said that speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in the accident, making it all the more important to wear safety gear. This incident also serves as a reminder for drivers and cyclists to always be aware of their surroundings and share the road safely.
