Incident Information

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when a motorcyclist lost their life in a crash on US 31 in Littlefield Township. As reported by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, the accident involved two vehicles and took place around 5:23 p.m. Despite the prompt response by the deputies, unfortunately, the motorcyclist did not survive the crash.

Near the Oden Fish Hatchery, the driver of a 1997 Honda Motorcycle, Larry Jessick was struck from behind by a 2011 Subaru Outback. The details are heartbreaking, as Jessick, a 68-year-old resident of Oden, was pronounced dead at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital. The driver of the Outback was identified as 55-year-old Jennifer Buskirk from Alanson.

The sheriff’s office received backup from the Harbor Springs Fire Department, Emmet County EMS, and the Emmet County Road Commission. Together they worked to handle the situation and provide support to those affected by the accident.

While investigations into the accident are ongoing, it’s reassuring to know that our community has dedicated individuals who are ready to step in and provide aid in times of crisis and our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.  It is a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance behind the wheel to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
