Sedan Collides with Jeep on the Mackinaw City Bridge Resulting in Death

Sunday night's fatal four-vehicle crash on I-75 near Wawatan Township in Northern Michigan was a tragedy that left one person dead and several others injured. The initial crash occurred when a Jeep, traveling the wrong way in the northbound lanes, collided with another car, killing the male driver and resulting in the female passenger being admitted to a hospital in Petoskey.

Following this horrific collision, two other vehicles crashed soon afterward leading to the horrible scene that unfolded at 7:39 p.m. local time. The scene of the accident that occurred on the Mackinaw City bridge was filled with chaos, as 21-year-old Carson Needham of Traverse City was killed and many others were injured. The passenger in his sedan, a 20-year-old resident of Oxford, was taken to Petoskey Hospital for treatment of her injuries while the driver of the Jeep, a 78-year-old man from Indiana, was transported to St. Ignace Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the Jeep suffered life-threatening injuries and was also treated at Petoskey; following his stabilization, officers from various law enforcement departments such as St. Ignace and MDOT as well as emergency services from Emmet and Cheboygan all responded to aid in any way they could.
