A tragic accident on Dixie Highway Saturday took the life of one man, 72-year-old James Ziegenfelder from Springfield Township. The crash, which occurred around 1:12 pm near the intersection at Deer Lake Road north of the business Ziegenfelder had just left, involved two vehicles, a 2022 GMC Acadia and a 2022 Ford Escape being driven by a 54-year-old woman from Holly.

According to police, it appears that Ziegenfelder had turned left in front of the northbound Ford when the two collided. Tragically, he was pronounced dead later that evening in hospital and another passenger in his vehicle who is also 72 years old is currently hospitalized in stable condition. The driver of the Ford Escape was treated for injuries and released. Neither drug nor alcohol use is suspected in the crash, police said. It remains under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
