Incident Information

Around 9:30 pm, a motorcycle crash in Genoa Township on Friday night left two people hospitalized and authorities investigating the cause. According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred when a 1981 Honda motorcycle collided with a 2021 Ducati Panigale as the two bikes were traveling westbound on Challis Road. As the road turned from asphalt to dirt/gravel, the Ducati began to slow down but the Honda was unable to do the same and struck the Ducati. Neither the 41-year-old Howell man operating the Ducati or the 41-year-old Detroit man operating the Honda were wearing a helmet.

Both men were then rushed to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor by Livingston County EMS. The man from Detroit is currently in critical condition, and the other is stable. Despite speculation that speed could be a factor, the Sheriff’s Office has ruled out alcohol as a contributing cause.

The scene was chaotic on Challis Road as emergency personnel worked to clear the aftermath of the accident. The road had been closed to traffic for almost three hours, as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the debris. Along with the deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s office, other responders from the Brighton Police Department, Livingston County EMS, and Brighton Area Fire Department joined forces to tackle the situation. The investigation is still underway, as the Traffic Safety Bureau of the sheriff’s office are still trying to piece together the events of the incident.

Our thoughts are with the injured men and their families during this difficult time.
