Five Car Pile Up in St. Clair County Results in One Death and Several Injured

Around 8:45 am, tragedy struck on Tuesday morning in St. Clair County as a five-car pileup left one person dead and many others injured. The incident occurred on westbound I-94 at Church Road, involving multiple vehicles. Authorities have identified the driver responsible for the crash as 67-year-old Stephen Chapman of Shelby Township. Chapman was driving a 2018 Dodge Ram 3500 and reportedly failed to stop in time, leading to a collision with a 2010 GMC Acadia. Unfortunately, the chain of events caused a fatal accident, and Chapman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident involved a 33-year-old woman from Port Huron who was driving the GMC Acadia with three children. A 9, 10, and 15 year old. All were left with serious injuries and had to be taken to a local hospital for treatment. Sadly, the 10-year-old was said to be in critical condition after being transferred to Children's Hospital in Detroit. Not only were the occupants of the Acadia left injured; but another driver from Port Huron, aged 29, was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Among the other cars were also a 2023 Ford F-150 and a 2010 Ram 3500, both of which were heavily damaged. Although the drivers of these vehicles were lucky enough to avoid any major injuries and were not taken to the hospital, the event itself was still a sobering reminder of the dangers that come with driving on busy roads. Fortunately, it seems that drugs or alcohol were not involved in the incident, giving authorities one less thing to worry about as they work to piece together what happened.
