Grand Rapids Moped vs. Car Accident on Kalamazoo Avenue
Like motorcyclists, drivers of mopeds are much more likely to suffer from serious and fatal injuries when they are in a collision with another vehicle. This was the case when a client in Grand Rapids was seriously injured while operating his moped when he was struck by car, who then fled the scene.
Our client was travelling northbound on Kalamazoo Ave. on his moped and was attempting to proceed through the green light crossing Fuller Ave. The other driver was driving southbound on Kalamazoo Ave. when he made an improper turn onto eastbound Fuller Ave., striking our client with his car.
Due to the impact, our client suffered a tibia fracture in his left leg, as well as pain in his ribs and back. He required surgery, which included hardware for the tibia fracture. Following surgery, he had multiple course of physical therapy and intensive rehabilitation. The serious nature of his injuries prevented him from working and being able to take care of himself independently.
Based on the severity of his injuries, limitations in daily activities, future arthritis and ongoing pain, the Law Offices of Lee Steinberg was able to obtain a significant settlement for our client. We’ve been helping accident injury victims all over west Michigan receive the compensation they are entitled to. Contact us today if you or a loved one was involved in an accident.
Danger on 28th Street
The second largest city in Michigan and the center of West Michigan’s economy, Grand Rapids is layered with long highways and curving roadways such as the intersections around 28th Street, which have led to serious injuries for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. By far, 28th St. is the most dangerous stretch of road in Grand Rapids, with five intersections landing on the top 10 list of Grand Rapids intersections where vehicle collisions occurred in 2014. These five intersections alone accounted for 227 car crashes:
- 28th Street SE and Kalamazoo Ave. SE
- 28th Street SE and Eastern Ave. SE
- 28th Street SE and Breton Rd. SE
- 28th Street SE and Madison Ave. SE
- 28th Street SE and Lake Eastbrook Blvd. SE.
28th Street also captures the top three spots when looking at dangerous intersections defined by injuries and fatalities, accounting for 37 vehicle accidents in which someone was injured or killed.
In addition, Grand Rapids interstates and highways are highly populated and carry significant risks to drivers. US 131, I-96 and I-196 are very busy during commuting and non-peak driving times, resulting in hundreds of accidents each year. Speed is no doubt a major reason for the accidents occurring on these roadways, in Grand Rapids and other communities, but other common reasons for car and semi-truck accidents are driving under the influence, fatigued driving, and in increasing and frightening measure, distracted driving.
The roadway dangers in Grand Rapids are, of course, not limited to the aforementioned roads. Winter weather accidents are frequent in Grand Rapids, including the unfortunate large pileup accidents that occur on the interstates during inclement weather.
